Providence makes a perfect choice for a romantic destination. If you’re visiting from a nearby city like Boston, Portland or New York or even if you’re coming “all the way” for South County, here is our suggestion for a romantic escape in the capital city.
First things first, consider planning your romantic getaway around a WaterFire, a perfect backdrop to help set the mood. Check in at the Hotel Providence, and consider booking one of their packages. The Jazz Masters Package includes preferred seating during Friday night live jazz, and two complimentary cocktails from their seasonal cocktail menu. Jazz starts at 7:30, so have an early dinner in the neighborhood at a restaurant such as nearby Figidini.
Sleep in on Saturday morning, and take advantage of the breakfast for two at Aspire that comes with the Jazz Masters Package.
On WaterFire nights, it’s best to plan ahead and make a reservation for dinner. When it comes to ambience and romance, nothing beats Gracie’s. WaterFire is at its most romantic later in the night, when the crowds have thinned down a bit and the air has gotten a little cooler. After dinner, walk over to the river and wander along, taking in the night.
Red Fin Crudo + Kitchen is the newest restaurant in the neighborhood, and has recently starting offering brunch with a killer Bloody Mary Bar. (Try the Bloody Rhody.) Sit outside and take your time before heading back home.
