Do you remember how thrilling this time of year was as a child? The flushed excitement, bourn from buckets of love, special decorations, presents, the treats–lots of treats. It is no surprise then, that at a certain point during Holiday festivities, the kids NEED to be occupied, and maybe even run around a little! If you find yourself in Downcity, looking for things to do with the fam, here are some ideas that’ll be fun for everyone.

Skating with Santa

Bring the kids down to enjoy an afternoon of skating with Santa while listening to holiday favorites. The heated pavilion will be filled with crafts and games! Ellie’s Bakery will be providing hot chocolate and treats to skating patrons, and candy canes will be handed out by Santa’s elves.

A Christmas Carol

Rhode Island’s family holiday tradition returns this year with Artistic Director Curt Columbus at the helm! Ebenezer Scrooge, a greedy, sour businessman is infamous for his lack of Christmas cheer. When three ghosts pay him a visit, Scrooge is given the chance to examine his life. He is inspired to change his ways and is wholly transformed by the spirit of Christmas. 4+

Sparky’s Puppets present “The Kingdom of Riddles,” a tale of a knight on a curious quest to capture a unicorn for the queen. The knight needs help from the audience to solve riddles posed by a jester, a witch, a dragon and others he meets along the way. Put on your thinking cap and prepare for some puzzling fun, playful humor and plenty of audience participation! 4+

Open Studio transforms the Museum into a studio space. Hands-on, artist-designed activities challenge participants to experience and creatively question artworks in new ways. Participants connect to works across the Museum’s collection and experiment with art-making tools and techniques.
