This #cincoPVD2016, Sol Chariots will be offering tours during the block party!

sol-chariots-pedicabSol Chariots Pedicab Cooperative is a worker-owned and operated bike taxi and delivery company in town that provides local transportation and tours. Sol Chariots seeks to radically rethink work environments and to have fun while providing three-wheeled adventures and rides to the people of Providence, RI. The business functions horizontally, giving a voice to all workers in the cooperative.

Sol Chariots was born out of the passion of three bike enthusiasts and pedicabbers that wanted to take their passion in a new direction. After returning from a Pacific Coast bike tour in Summer 2011, Ash and Ally decided to work pedicabbing in Newport, RI in order to do something to make money while using their passion for bikes (and their newly-strengthened leg muscles). While pedicabbing in Newport, Ash and Ally met Dave who was also interested and excited about biking, but looking for a different kind of workplace that was more empowering. The 3 pedicabbers pooled their money and turned to the support of their community through a crowd-sourcing campaign and were able to launch the co-op in 2012.

Sol Chariot provides 3 types of tours: DownCity Arts, Providence Reinvented, or Providence Historical.  All are fun, educational, and at times surprising!

Sol – Refers to the sun, as the cabs are sun yellow and bring sunshine and happiness to people’s lives.  It also refers to the term “solidarity,” as we seek to work in solidarity with labor struggles around the world and also to build a solidarity economy here in Providence that puts people, cooperation, democracy, and justice at its core. Chariots are the beloved 3-wheeled vehicles!

We are super pleased to have Sol Chariots on board for #cincoPVD2016. Don’t forget to RSVP! See you InDowncity!
