DOWNTOWN LIVING TOUR

Visit 11 apartment buildings, all in one afternoon! The Downtown Providence Living Tour will highlight several newly restored properties along with popular buildings that were featured on previous tours. Join us, whether you’re interested in renting an apartment downtown or simply want to spend the day exploring our vibrant neighborhood!

Everyone must check in at the registration site, AS220, 115 Empire Street, to receive wrist bands and tote bags before moving on to the tour stops at 225 Weybosset, 95 Lofts, Arcade Providence, Avalon at Center Place, G Reserve, Providence G, Regency Plaza, the Sampalis Building, the Telephone Building, and Westminster Lofts’ Peerless and Wilkinson buildings. Tour programs will include maps and suggested itineraries, guiding guests to walk or bike the route at their own pace. Free shuttle service will also be provided.

Advance tickets can be purchased for $7 at downtownprovidence.com. Tickets will also be available at AS220 for $10 on the day of the tour. Children under age 10 are free. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Downtown Providence Parks Conservancy’s restoration of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.

 

DAY OF PORTUGAL RI FOR WATERFIRE

There is something for everyone to enjoy at the 40th celebration of Day of Portugal in RI with a Portuguese-themed WaterFire in downtown Providence on Saturday, June 10th. Venham!

The WaterFire braziers will be lit shortly after sunset at 8:20 p.m. Saturday and stay burning until 12:30 a.m.

Prior to the lighting, at 7:30 p.m., Rancho Folclórico do Santo Antonio, of Pawtucket, performs on the Basin Stage.

A Portugal at WaterFire exhibit takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. on the Washington Street Bridge. Participants will include the Institute for Portuguese and Lusophone World Studies at Rhode Island College, Azores Airlines, Portuguese genealogist George Pacheco, Maria Lawton, author of “Azorean Cooking: From My Family Table to Yours,” and artist José Santos.

Saturday’s WaterFire is sponsored by Rhode Island’s Day of Portugal and Rhode Island College to mark the 40th continuous Day of Portugal festivities in Providence.

Other events include:

A Day of Portugal reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the State House.

A Portuguese Heritage Festival at the Alex & Ani City Center in Providence on Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
