Like many, we at InDowncity were horrified to hear the news of the separation of children from their families at the Texas border. Today there are still hundreds of families separated and in need of legal aid, so we’ve organized an online auction in collaboration with Cornish Associates and businesses in downtown Providence to collectively donate funds to RAICES Texas.

To browse and bid on items from your favorite Downcity businesses, simply visit

Please donate and share this link with your friends and family! Let’s come together to make Providence proud while also helping families in desperate need of support. From RAICES Texas:

“Parents separated from their children at the border (and other immigrants placed in detention) can’t get released from ICE custody to reunite with their families until they pay the full amount of their immigration bond. Bonds are set at a MINIMUM of $1500, and are usually in the range of $5-10K, even for asylum seekers without any criminal history.

Unlike in the criminal system, bail bond companies either do not help people in immigration proceedings or impose very strict requirements, like private ankle monitors (which families have to pay to “rent”).

Donate to our fund to directly support legal services for detained separated parents and the direct funding for bonds to get parents released!!!

As soon as RAICES learned that the threatened policy of family separation was ramping up, we committed to serving as many separated families as possible. Through your generous support, we can now reach many hundreds more families, reunite parents with their children, and pay bonds to get parents released. We thank you for your generosity.”
