The Venue:

Elegant, low-key, unique or classy, downcity has a wealth of venues to suit any style of ceremony, reception or rehearsal dinner. We got some top tips from the fabulous downcity venues:

Aurora

This newcomer to the Providence scene adds a versatile, sleek and contemporary venue space to downcity’s offerings. With the space and flexibility to make the space your own, Aurora can be transformed into anything your imagination can create:

“Our large open space and sleek design gives you the opportunity to create the space you want for your wedding. The 200 person capacity, stellar sound system, dance floor and full bar (complete with cocktail craftsmen- couple’s signature cocktail anyone?) also make us a perfect location for a kickass dance party reception!”

Their top piece of advice to consider when choosing your wedding location is to be sure you can  make it feel like it is your own”- it’s your wedding, whatever your mother(-in-law) might be telling you!

Gracie’s on Washington Street is well known for it’s fine dining, “within walking distance to several hotels, and [as] Providence’s only AAA Four Diamond Award winning restaurant” it is a perfect spot to host a en elegant event:

“Our space is very versatile and can host a variety of weddings. Our Private Dining Room is best suited for smaller, intimate weddings and can host up to 45 for a seated dinner. Meanwhile, our Main Dining Room can host up to 100 guests. When utilizing our Main Dining Room, couples can have their ceremony or cocktail reception in our Private Dining Room”

Having some experience in hosting fine event’s Gracie’s has this advice on choosing your perfect wedding venue:

“From experience, I find that the most important component of a wedding is the quality and presentation of the food. The majority of the reception is spent indulging in cuisine. From beautiful passed hors d’oeuvres and stationary displays during cocktail hour to the last bite of dessert at the end of the meal, we pride ourselves on providing guests with a dining experience they will always remember”.

 The Dean Hotel

Looking for the perfect spot to host your out of town guests? Heck, even in town guests will be clamoring to get a room at the stylish boutique downcity spot that is The Dean Hotel. “This historical building has been elegantly transformed into a 52-room hotel in the heart of the Providence’s Downcity historic district”, making it not only exceptionally cool for a downcity wedding, but exceptionally convenient.

With rooms priced more in the region you’d expect to find at a not-too-enticing budget option, The Dean’s accommodation offers a range of sleeping options including a double bunk bedded rooms for budget conscious travellers starting at $119 (that’s less than $30 per person… I know), to ‘The Heights’ a set of “four connected guest rooms, two king suites and two queen rooms on the top floor of the hotel”.

As well as it’s sleeping arrangements, The Dean also provides numerous and varied options for dining and entertainment: Faust, the Bavarian inspired beer hall serves up a mean Currywurst; Bolt can sort you out with your morning coffee fix and delicious pastries from Foremost Baking Company; The Magdalaena Room is achingly sultry and packed with prohibition style cocktail options; and The Boombox, the Korean style karaoke lounge, where early hours of the morning go to die in a haze of sake and excellent public performance decisions.
