5 Snow Day Activities

With snow or colder weather in the forecast, sometimes it’s just so nice to stay home and do something cozy indoors. Personally, we’re heading to a few of our go-to small businesses in downtown Providence, RI to stock up on supplies for our snow day activities ahead of any upcoming inclement weather.

Here are the activities keeping us busy with things to do at home this season! (Not on this list, but also definitely happening: wrapping ourselves in eighteen blankets and watching ten episodes of a favorite show while still in our pajamas.)

CRAFTING

Hook, Line and Tinker Embroidery Kit, Queen of Hearts and Modern Love, $28

If you have ever wanted to try your hand at sewing, now is the time! We have been having so much fun trying out the various embroidery kits from Queen of Hearts and Modern Love, including this oceanic themed one!

Agrumes Needlepoint Kit, Homestyle, $56

It’s not a want, it’s a need- how sweet is this citrus needlepoint kit?

DIY Bird Felting Kit, Craftland, $42

We’ve been eyeing this adorable bluebird ornament needle felting kit for quite a while, so snatch one up before they’re gone!

PUZZLING

Lion Wooden Puzzle, Queen of Hearts and Modern Love, $5

If you are a fan of puzzles, but want to try something a little different than the usual jigsaw, check out this 3D wooden puzzle just waiting to be assembled.

Surprisingly Challenging Elephant Puzzle, Craftland, $32

Looks may be deceiving with this one… If you are up for a new challenge, give this handmade, acrylic puzzle a try!

Ocean Flora Vintage Puzzle, Homestyle, $25

When it comes to a classic 1,000 piece puzzle, perhaps it does not get prettier than this! We love a good ocean-themed challenge (just look at those brightly colored coral).

MAKING COCKTAILS/MOCKTAILS

Sierra Cocktail Shaker, Homestyle, $68

Sometimes when it’s a weekend and the snow is coming down and there’s nowhere to be, we like to mix up a little something tasty. Make sure you have a quality shaker in your cupboard for just such a time, like this one from Homestyle!

Tom Collins Elderflower and Hops Mixer, Queen of Hearts and Modern Love, $20

How does this sound, after an hour of shoveling: “Bright and refreshing with vibrant lychee notes and a clean bitter finish”? Cocktail making at home has never been as easy as when using this delightful mixer!

Brunch Kit, Eno Fine Wines, $45

If both savory and sweet are your thing, Eno Fine Wines has something fun for you: a brunch kit that includes all the makings for Bloody Marys AND Italian Bellinis!

READING

Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati, Symposium Books, $27

Want a book that will sweep you away to a land and time far different (but perhaps not so different) from your own? Give Costanza Casati’s debut novel about a complicated ancient queen a read.

Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times by Katherine May, Symposium Books, $24

Every season of life can bring new challenges and changes. That’s why it’s so refreshing to read Katherine May’s take on renewing and healing when the going gets tough. Curl up with this one on your next snow day!

PAMPERING YOURSELF

Moon Rivers Naturals Blossom Bath and Body Oil, Queen of Hearts and Modern Love, $26

Shoveling can be a lot of work and quite intense on the body! Relax your muscles by running yourself a bath and adding a splash of this decadent bath oil.

Whipped Body Butter, Craftland, $16

The scent of lavender and citrus is just too good to ignore. Treat your winter skin to a luxuriating, nourishing application of whipped body butter.

Urban Fellow Beard Balm, Urban Fellow, $12

Chilly winter weather can possibly lead to skin and hair feeling dry or neglected. Make sure this is not the case using local barber shop Urban Fellow’s special beard balm!

We hope you enjoy yourself, whether you are recuperating after a morning of shoveling, or tucked up all cozy indoors all day. If you are looking for even more self-care ideas, we’ve got you!
