World Bread Day 2021 Roundup
We have some glorious news for you: Saturday, October 16 is World Bread Day! If you've been waiting for an excuse to dive head first into a bread basket, then take this as your sign.
Here's our complete list of recommendations for where to head in downtown Providence on Saturday in order to fulfill your carbohydrate dreams. All. Day. Long.
BREAKFAST - ALL THE ENGLISH MUFFINS
To start your day off strong, Small Point Cafe offers a generous variety of options for their Breakfast Sandwich. Not only can you choose from a selection of English muffins, croissants, bagels, and more, but you can also choose your meat and vege too!
A few blocks away, Little City Coffee and Kitchen serves an out-of-this-world Pulled Mushroom Sandwich on their house-made English muffins. (I have a thing for English Muffins- just a warning, folks).
LUNCH - SANDWICH TIME
Great bread makes a sandwich, in my humble opinion! For lunch, I recently devoured the divine BLT at Kin Southern Table and Bar. It’s made with thick sliced and toasted bread, slabs of bacon, and sweet, sweet, sweet tomato jam!
If you’re a fan of rolls, Trinity Brewhouse will come through: give their hot Beer Battered Fish Sandwich a try.
For gluten-avoiding folks who want to get in on the fun, Serendipity Gourmet offers gluten-free bread options for their deli sandwiches. Or if you’re looking for a vegan option, try Bolt Coffee Co’s Beet Sandwich- it’s brimming with vegetables and served on some pretty pillowy brioche.
SNACKS - BUNS, PITA, AND MORE
Perhaps you are not ready to commit to a full meal, or you prefer to graze before digging into the entree… (Tbh, I’m always seeking out snacks no matter what.)
While you’re waiting for your first course at Gracie’s—it’s going to be worth the wait—enjoy the most beautiful selection of housemade whole wheat breads paired with pats of butter.
And speaking of butter, North is not kidding around with their Tiny Ham Biscuits (the mustard and ham inside omg)!
At Tori Tomo, savor the sweetness of the Pork Belly Bun. Comprising of light, fluffy bread stuffed with pork belly, lettuce, and pickles, it’s the best of so many worlds.
Rosalina, Amaryllis, and Kleos all offer up breads serving as incredible vehicles for cheeses and homemade spreads. Rosalina’s Italian Charcuterie always blows my mind, and the toasted bread is a big part of the experience. Both Amaryllis and Kleos offer a colorful spread of hummus, tzatziki, and more to be scooped up with a pita.
Or, if you’re feeling all in on World Bread Day and you’d like to dip an entire loaf—I’m not judging—of Sourdough Country Bread or Heirloom Polenta Focaccia into spiced olive oil in the comfort of your own home, order fresh bread to-go from Oberlin! You will not be sorry.
DINNER - GRILLED OR SMOKED
As the day winds down, why not get into some magic? Pizza dough is some pretty magical stuff and I think it definitely makes up an important part of the bread family. At Figidini, give the classic and majestic Margherita a try!
And last, but not least: we can’t forget the delectable Skillet Cornbread over at Durk’s Bar-B-Q. At Durks, order the cornbread—enough so you can have leftovers for breakfast the next morning—along with their tastefully seasoned brisket!
DESSERT - TOPPED WITH ICE CREAM
Also part of the bread family, pretzels are salty, chewy, and undeniable (to me, at least). At The Malted Barley, finish your day with the Waffle Pretzel. It will arrive at your table drizzled with Nutella and crowned with ice cream!
