Providence is rich with local breweries, bars, and places to grab a delicious drink. And whenever National Beer Day rolls around, it’s hard to pick just one place to visit. Check out one—or all—and enjoy sipping while supporting local small businesses!

Beer in downtown Providence: a flight of beers at The Malted Barley

A flight of beer at The Malted Barley

THE MALTED BARLEY

House-made pretzels and a frothy IPA are a match made in heaven- or, more close to home, at The Malted Barley in Providence! The Malted Barley opened on Westminster Street in 2016. Today, the drink menu boasts various craft beers—including a wheat beer and sweet barleywine from The Malted Barley Brewing Company—and a wide selection from New England breweries. There’s something for everyone, from fruit beers to gluten-free beers. If you’re feeling peckish, give the Caprese Pretzel Sandwich or the Barley Brownie Sundae a try while you’re there.

Beer in downtown Providence: the Ukraine Solidarity Stout from Trinity in a glass

TRINITY BREWHOUSE

It’s hard to write about beer in downtown Providence without mentioning Trinity Brewhouse. Opened in 1994, Trinity brews their own stouts, ales, and porters at their restaurant on Fountain Street. They even recently renamed their classic Imperial Stout to the “Ukraine Solidarity Stout” with the proceeds going to World Central Kitchen. Trinity is open seven days a week so grab a seat, order dinner (we love the nachos, for anyone looking for a snack), and check out their original and flavorful beers.

Beer in downtown Providence: candles and a glass of beer and a glass of cider at Oberlin

OBERLIN

Known for mouthwatering house-made pastas and breads, fresh ceviche, and more, Oberlin opened in 2015 on Union Street. Alongside the restaurant’s thoughtful food menu, Oberlin also pours a delightful array of mixed drinks, wines, ciders, and more. If you’re looking to take a seat at the bar and savor a beer on National Beer Day, we recommend ordering “Subtle Victories,” a charming Origin Beer Project amber lager currently on draft. Enjoy with good company and an elegant cheese plate!

Beer in downtown Providence: a stout in a glass

A glass of the Shaidzon 4th Anniversary Imperial Stout at Durk’s

DURK’S BAR-B-Q

One of the first things you might notice when entering Durk’s Bar-B-Q is the magnificent, glimmering whiskey wall. Did you know that the restaurant and bar also offers multiple international and local beers on draft? And the beer selection is always refreshing and rotating! One option currently on tap is a silky imperial stout from Shaidzon Beer Company. (And this particular beer is woman-brewed!) Order a glass and some tantalizing smoked meats or barbecue.
