Call For Support: Help Bintimani Relocate To Downtown Providence
You’ve likely heard amazing reviews of Bintimani, the West African family-owned restaurant started by husband and wife, Sahr and Baindu Josiah-Faeduwor, with its roots in Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood. If you’re lucky you’ve had the chance to sample their dishes at local events and venues over the past year.
The restaurant’s story began 13 years ago, when the family first opened their restaurant in Roxbury. In 2021, despite a strong local reputation, and notable recognition (Boston Eater’s 2018 List of 38 Essential Restaurants), Bintimani was evicted from its Roxbury space by gentrifying developers seeking to convert the building into luxury co-living (Boston Eater: Bintimani, a Pillar of Boston’s West African Dining Scene, Has Been Evicted).
Through the compassionate embrace of the Providence community, Bintimani has sought to relocate to Providence’s Downtown (Boston Globe: Evicted from Boston, a new West African restaurant is being welcomed in Providence) in the former Tom’s Bao Bao location at 320 Westminster Street. In an effort led by middle child, Brown University graduate, and Providence transplant, Aiyah Josiah-Faeduwor, Bintimani has been able to successfully secure $150K of the needed funding to re-launch, and is seeking to raise the $200K funding gap needed to guarantee re-opening this summer.
Upon opening in their new location, Bintimani will offer guests a mouth watering array of classic dishes including Cassava Leaves, Spinach & Chicken Stew, Plantain Salad and Puff Puff (fried dough) to name a few. (insert food photos) The family also has plans to open the restaurant space up to guest chefs, through a program designed to support RI's BIPOC entrepreneurial ecosystem, introducing cuisines and cultures within the Black diaspora to Bintimani's customers.
Bintimani are now calling on the community’s support to close the 200K gap by contributing to Bintimani’s Last Hope GoFundMe . Your contribution will bring us all one step closer to enjoying Bintimani’s cuisine in summer 2022 and beyond.
