Indoor Activities to Do in the Summer

Phew! We are absolutely thankful for air conditioning this summer! Whether that’s a clunky but faithful AC unit in our apartments, cold air circulating at a beloved coffee shop, or a refreshing corner at a public library, we’re trying our best to stay cool… And no matter the weather, we’re finding plenty of indoor activities to do this summer. The next time you decide to hang out indoors, we have a bunch of fun ideas and kits we recommend. Each is from a local small business located in downtown Providence, RI.

(And if you’re looking for more ways to enjoy summer in the city this year, we’ve got you covered.)

CREATE SOMETHING CUTE

Fungus Embroidery Kit, Queen of Hearts and Modern Love, $30

When it comes to embroidery, there are so many stitches and patterns to choose from! So to kick off this roundup of indoor activities to do in the summer, we’re of course recommending picking up an embroidery kit for your next cool, cozy afternoon at home.

Lucky Stars Origami Kit, Craftland, $8

Origami is such a fun and creative outlet and we’re all about these darling paper stars!

Enchanted Forest Coloring Book, Homestyle, $15

With all of these gorgeous, intricate coloring pages at our disposal, we’ve got our next relaxing day planned out already…

Happy Food Stamps, Craftland, $27

Scrapbooking or card making, anyone? Stamps—especially when as whimsical as these food-themed ones—are a great way to decorate your pages!

Bugs and Insects Puzzle, Homestyle, $25

Puzzling is a year round activity, but summer is especially the perfect time to sit in a cold room and just lose oneself in the pieces.

FIND YOUR WORDS

Roses Stationary Set, Homestyle, $26

Letter writing has been a pastime hearkening back to a time when it was one of the few ways to communicate long distance… It can be a wonderful way to slow down, reflect, and send a little “I’m thinking of you” to a loved one in a special way!

How to Write Poetry: A Guided Journal with Prompts by Christopher Salermo and Kelsea Habecker, Symposium Books, $14

There’s something so romantic about heading to the closest cafe (we’re partial to Small Point Cafe, Little City Coffee & Kitchen, and Bolt Coffee, in our neighborhood), ordering a coffee, and sitting down to write…

TASTE SOMETHING NEW

Encyclopedia of Cocktails by Robert Simonson, Symposium Books, $25

On these hot days, we find ourselves making quite a few spritzes with whatever ingredients are on hand… What better time to concoct something new than the next night when the air conditioning is beckoning?

Maple Syrup and Sriracha Sampler, Queen of Hearts and Modern Love, $36

How about a tasting that’s a little sweet, and a little spicy? Make some pancakes and eggs and dive into this fun variety of six different Sugar Bob’s product samplers.

Wine and Cheese Pairing Swatchbook, Queen of Hearts and Modern Love, $14

Hit the grocery store and the wine shop (yes, that’s Eno Fine Wines calling your name) and then set up a little cheese and wine tasting of your own right at home.

Brouwerij F. Boon - Geuze Sampler Set, Eno Fine Wines, $49

A cold beer on a hot day can be incredibly satisfying… So why not have a few friends over and give this sampler set of unique geuze beers a taste test?
