6 Places to Dine on New Year’s Eve in Providence

Phew. It’s been a very full year in our bustling slice of the city… From new businesses opening in downtown Providence (including Bali Bungalow, Gift Horse, and Oberlin’s relocation and expansion) to the return of some of InDowncity’s fan-favorite events (thanks for showing up in such great numbers for the Providence Rock and Roll Yard Sale and Celebrate Downcity), we’ve been busy. As we approach the end of 2023, it’s time to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Providence! Here are six spots—okay, okay, it’s technically five, but read on—with festivities planned.

25TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AT GRACIE’S

We can scarcely believe it but well-known restaurant and event venue Gracie’s is celebrating their 25th year in business! Head to 194 Washington Street on New Year’s Eve (Sunday, December 31) for festivities including a specialty 5-course tasting menu for $150 ($230 with wine pairings), and a 7-course tasting menu for $210 ($320 with wine pairings).

Along with delicious fare (we hear truffles! Caviar! Wagyu beef!), there will be specialty cocktails, live music, a countdown to the ball drop, and more. Seating times are available from 5-8 p.m. and can be reserved online here.

5-COURSE DINNER AT OBERLIN

It was exciting news for us to share when downtown restaurant Oberlin decided to relocate just a block away from their original space to a larger spot… And we’re still excited about it! Whether you’ve been frequenting their new digs at 266 Westminster Street, or if you’ve been eager to check it out, make your plans for New Year’s Eve and enjoy five delicious special courses for $150 during your visit! Make a reservation online here. (The hand-crafted pasta dishes are the things dreams are made of. For real.)

FULL COURSE DINNER AT GIFT HORSE

Gift Horse was one of the latest restaurants to open in downtown Providence in 2023. With a succulent slew of raw bar items, zesty cocktails, and South Korean-inspired fare, this spot is a great addition to the local food scene. (And it’s fun that Gift Horse is owned and operated by the same team behind Oberlin. Did you know they share a kitchen?)

Here’s the details for New Year’s Eve on Sunday, December 31, straight from the horse’s mouth: “Join us at Gift Horse for a special evening with Chef Sky Kim's Han-jeongsik, a feast featuring an expansive display of house-made banchan (15 to be exact!) complimenting aged Rhode Island duck from Gnarly Vines Farm. The meal will be split into three courses starting with Rhode Island Oysters, followed by the Han-jeongsik, and dessert.” Make a reservation online here; this festive, prepaid meal is $125 each.

R&B BRUNCH AND DINNER AT KIN SOUTHERN TABLE + BAR

Kin Southern Table + Bar has been serving delicious soul food classics in downtown Providence since 2021, including during weekly brunch on Sundays. And on Sunday, December 31, Kin has a few things queued up in honor of the new year: check out a special New Year’s Eve R&B sing-along brunch, featuring DJ Incredible and bottomless mimosas.

Craving something special for dinner instead? Kin will also have specials and complimentary champagne toasts on New Year’s Eve eve. Make reservations for brunch and/or dinner online here.

NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY AT GIFT HORSE AND OBERLIN

Looking for even more fun? From 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., both Oberlin and Gift Horse (Oberlin’s sister restaurant and neighbor) are having a "NYE Late Night Party.” Float between the two restaurants during the event and enjoy menu collaborations, a midnight sparkling toast, and a cash bar. Half of the ticket proceeds will be donated to Project Weber/RENEW! Tickets can be purchased under the “Events” tab online here.

ALL YOU CAN EAT AT DURK’S BAR-B-Q

If you want to end the year with flavor, Durk’s Bar-B-Q has all the seasoned and succulent meat on the menu. As a special occasion in honor of New Year’s Eve, Durk’s is offering an All You Can Eat deal on their meats and sides. This is available in-house only, from 12-9 p.m. on Sunday, December 31. Make a reservation online here and start piling that plate high!

BONUS: FIREWORK SHOW IN PROVIDENCE

And, in case you missed it, Providence will have its very own New Year’s Eve firework show! The show can be viewed from the 195 District Park, 7-9 p.m. Check out visiting food trucks, The Guild PVD Beer Garden, a WaterFire lighting, and more fun throughout the night. Full details here.
