Downtown Providence residents, the day has finally arrived: a grocery store is opening in your neighborhood! Rory’s Market + Kitchen—a proudly woman owned and operated family business—opens to the public for the first time at 9 a.m. on Sept. 23, 2022.

If you’ve ever daydreamed about taking a quick walk to your local market to buy groceries while also grabbing a delicious, freshly made meal (all without needing a car), then the addition of Rory’s to 113 Washington Street in Providence, RI, will make those dreams come true.

Starting on the 23rd, Rory’s regular business hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Throughout the Grand Opening Weekend on Sept. 24-25, the store will offer menu samples, organic produce blowout sales, and samples of products from local vendors.

Rory’s has been in business on Cape Cod, MA for over 40 years; they opened their initial location in Dennisport, MA in 1978, followed by their second location in Mashpee, MA in 2014. The new downtown Providence location is the company’s third store and the first located outside of Massachusetts.

The market’s owner and namesake, Rory Eames, took over ownership of the business from her mother Darby in 2019. A family business at its core, the brand is built on the strength of community connections. In looking to expand her business beyond Cape Cod, Eames was initially attracted to Providence’s scale and growing downtown district. After considering properties in the Greater Boston area, she found herself uniquely attracted to the location on Washington Street.

“Building connections through food and atmosphere is such a fundamental part of our business,” Eames says. “In a city like Providence we can play an active role in the community. We’re excited to join the vibrant downtown Providence neighborhood, not just as a new business, but as a hub for people to connect.”

The downtown neighborhood has witnessed steady business growth over the past two decades. (Think all the locally owned shops and restaurants you know and love- Kin Southern Table and BarFigidiniThe VaultSymposium BooksOberlin! The list goes on!) With all of the growth, the neighborhood is missing its very own grocery store.

Rory’s will be the one stop grocery store downtown residents have been seeking, offering customers a wide selection of organic produce, natural grocery staples, unique specialty items and a complete selection of industry leading supplements. In addition to the grocery products, Rory’s serves customers fresh juices, smoothies and elixirs at the juice bar. The full café menu at Rory’s Kitchen includes delicious options: all day breakfasts, fresh salads, sandwiches, hot bowls… Yes, please!

The store stocks a grab-and-go variety of prepared foods for downtown customers looking for a quick bite. And for those who cannot make it to shop-in person or prefer online ordering and delivery, Rory’s offers has their own in-house delivery team that will bring your groceries right to your door. Planning an event? Rory’s offers catering for both small and large groups.

We are so excited to have Rory’s join the downcity scene! Please join us in giving a very big Providence welcome to this wonderful new business. For updates, follow  @iloverorys on Instagram and visit their website.
