Summer 2023 Fashion: Paris or Providence?
Providence, Rhode Island is a city brimming with creativity and possibility. While strutting down Providence streets may not have quite the same thrill as flaunting streetwear in New York City or Milan, we are paying attention to all the summer fits coming together on the top runways all over the world. That is why we’ve put together a guide for Summer 2023 fashion from our two go-to clothing spots downtown, Queen of Hearts and Modern Love and The Vault Collective. (Please note: move fast, because there are only one of each of the items from The Vault!)
METALLIC BAGS
We’re big fans of dressing up any outfit with a colorful pair of earrings or statement sunglasses; it only takes one bold piece to change an entire look, after all. That’s why we’re elated that Refinery 29’s Samantha Sutton reports accessories are trending for Summer 2023 fashion: “Even if your summer outfit is fairly simple, you’ll be able to amp things up with some of the season’s hottest accessories, including metallic bags.”
DENIM
Denim in all its shades, shapes, and sizes is going strong this season! “Deep breaths, because you can’t fight this: denim takes up the Y2K mantle for spring,” say Ellie Pithers and Joy Montgomery in British Vogue. “Denim comes printed, distressed, studded, encompassing everything from maxi skirts to coats – preferably worn all at once.” This is why you’ll see us out and about, pairing our deep blue skirts and jackets all summer long.
SLEEPWEAR
Comfy and confident is the new style in the public eye, according to British Vogue. Don a luxurious nightgown-style dress, layer a sheer gown, or slip on a silky top for your next night out.
NEON
For men’s fashion, understated is out the door in some cases. “Full of colour, the likes of Louis Vuitton, Versace, Dsquared2 and Paul Smith served garments in technicolour hues of acid yellow, neon pink and sweet orange,” write Zak Maoui and Murray Clark of GQ. “Rick Owens went even further proposing that it's time to envelope yourself in lucid pink. Why not?” Indeed- why not grab a top from Queen of Hearts and Modern Love for your summer ensemble?
POCKETS
Sick and tired of grasping your keys, phone, coffee cup, and sunglasses all in one hand while opening your car door? Well, good news: pockets of all kinds are in for Summer 2023 fashion! Pithers and Montgomery recommend trying “a freshly minted cargo skirt, plentiful with pockets at Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton, and rendered in top-of-the-range tweed at Chanel.” But if those styles aren’t in your budget (same), we have a few local recommendations.
