In Providence, there’s always something interesting going on! And we understand how challenging it can be to wade through all the happenings and decide what events to attend, where to eat, and what to shop for. That’s why we’re here to share the top things we’re excited about in the coming week in each installment of “The Weekly.” Each week, we’ll rant and rave unabashedly about just a slice of the food, fun, and fantastic items that we’re currently obsessed with in downtown Providence, RI.

CELEBRATE INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORE DAY IN PROVIDENCE WITH A GIVEAWAY
Calling all the bookish folks: this Saturday, April 26 is Independent Bookstore Day! So of course, we’re celebrating our favorite indie bookstore, Symposium Books! Over on Instagram, we’re running a giveaway through Friday, April 25 to give four (4) randomly selected winners $50 gift cards to Symposium Books. Enter it before 12 p.m. on Friday for a chance to win.
Symposium also has a ton of fun programming planned for Independent Bookstore Day itself. Head to the store in downtown Providence, RI for a scavenger hunt, special tote bags, local author visits (including Riss M. Neilson), and more. Find more details at @symposiumbooks on Instagram soon.
SPRING DRINK MENU NOW AVAILABLE AT THE EDDY BAR
The sun has been shining, the trees are blossoming, and we’re ready for all things fresh and new! This includes the very exciting roll out of the spring drinks menu at The Eddy, one of our go-to cocktail bars in the downtown Providence neighborhood. We dropped by for a little taste test, and can attest that we’ll be back soon.
Here’s the details about a few of the drinks we sipped. The “Paper Crane”—perhaps our highly subjective favorite—is light and delicate, made with jasmine infused gin, plum liqueur, lemon, grapefruit, jasmine, and—one of our personal favorite cocktail ingredients—egg white. The “In Too Deep” cocktail is smoky, thanks to the mezcal, but also sweet due to the apricot liqueur, carrot, lemon, and orange. And the “Daly Gold” has a lovely tropical ombre look, thanks to the mixture of black tea, bourbon, apricot, honey, and lemon.
And there are many more to choose from! (And psst we hear that outdoor seating season is coming soon!)
WHALERS BREWING COMPANY TAP TAKEOVER AT THE MALTED BARLEY
If your Friday night plans are coming together and you’re looking for something fun and tasty to do in downtown Providence, check out the latest Tap Takeover at The Malted Barley! On Friday, April 25, from 6-8 p.m. Whalers Brewing Company will be at The Malted Barley on Westminster Street.
Meet representatives from the brewery, enjoy free samples and swag, and drink a variety of Whalers beers (including their APA, IPA, and more). We also always recommend ordering The Malted Barley’s delicious pretzels! They’re housemade and come in the form of individual pretzels, pretzel sandwiches, and pretzel desserts.
