3 Ways to Spend Valentine’s Day in Providence

Every year as February rolls around, stores are filled with paper heart decorations. Reservations at elegant restaurants fill up, and romance is in the air. Whether you’re focusing on showing yourself some extra love, celebrating friendships, or heading out for dinner with your significant other, here’s how we recommend spending Valentine’s Day in Providence, RI.

1. BROWSE FOR BEAUTIFUL GIFTS

One of our favorite parts about downtown are the many, vibrant small businesses located along Westminster Street. If you need some help or inspiration when it comes to buying Valentine’s Day gifts, we have an InDowncity online gift guide prepped and ready for you.

Hoping to pop into a shop and purchase a gift in person? We hear Craftland has a 10% off sale on all their locally made jewelry! While you’re at Craftland, make sure to pick out one of their unique cards. Right next door, Queen of Hearts and Modern Love has a limited amount of fifteen floral arrangements—complete with vases—available in-store only. Reach out to Queen of Hearts and Modern Love to find out the details. They also have a special selection of chocolates, jewelry, and more.

2. MAKE A ROMANTIC RESERVATION

Here at InDowncity, we’ve made it a point to eat at many of the local restaurants in our small slice of downtown. That’s why we have so many ideas about the most delicious and romantic—in our humble opinion—restaurants in the area. (We recommend making a reservation for either Valentine’s Day, or a day of your choice, as soon as possible!)

If you are looking for an establishment that offers multiple courses, Gracie’s is an elegant restaurant that boasts a la carte options as well as five to seven course meals. There’s also an optional additional wine pairing for each course. For a slightly more casual but intimate dining experience, check out farm-to-table spot Amaryllis. Want to enjoy a Valentine’s Day lunch instead of dinner? Sura serves scrumptious Korean and Japanese food for lunch and dinner everyday.

If you cannot get enough of flavorful Italian fare, we are obsessed with the decadent Neapolitan-style pizza at Figidini and Italian charcuterie and ravioli at Rosalina. Speaking of ravioli, if housemade pasta, breads, and an undeniable selection of seafood is your thing, then Oberlin is a must. (We hear they’re sold out for Valentine’s Day reservations, but we highly recommend picking another day to head there.) If Greek cuisine is calling your name, Kleos has all the tzatziki and olive oil and octopus!

3. PLAN A NIGHT AWAY

If you’re craving a change of scenery but want to stay local while celebrating Valentine’s Day, we recommend booking a night at The Dean Hotel. The Dean is located in downtown Providence, and includes not only unforgettable decor and style, but also many options for dining and entertainment within the building itself. For food and drinks check out Bolt Coffee, The Dean Bar, and restaurant pop-ups on the first floor. For karaoke and cocktails, sing your heart out to all the best love songs at The Boombox.

We also love that the hotel is so close to all our favorite downtown shops and restaurants, so there’s no shortage of things to do during a romantic stay.
