3 Ways to Celebrate Fall in Downtown Providence

Welcome, welcome crisp leaves and cool weather (supposedly)! The autumnal season has finally arrived in Providence, and we are absolutely here for it.

If you are anything like us, then you have been enthusiastically counting down the days until it’s time to don fuzzy flannels and sip pumpkin spice everything. While there are no apple orchards or pumpkin patches in our stretch of the city, we love celebrating the season in other ways. Here are three ways we are getting into the swing of things and making the most of fall in downtown Providence, RI.

1. DEVOURING FALL TREATS

We could not be happier to welcome back the flavors of the season, pumpkin spice and cider! Some of our go-to cafes in downtown Providence are Bolt Coffee, Small Point Cafe, and Little City Coffee and Kitchen, and each has a vibrant lineup of seasonal snacks. Give the fragrant Pumpkin Pie Latte and pumpkin muffin at Bolt a try. Want to go beyond pumpkin? Along with the traditional, delicious PSL and a pumpkin whoopie pie, Small Point also offers apple hand pies, seasonal scones, and tasty sandwiches too. At Little City, we have a difficult time choosing between the vegan chai donut, the apple butter snickerdoodle, and the cinnamon cider scone.

Still thirsty? Trinity Brewhouse is now pouring their Oktoberfest lager! And The Malted Barley has all the makings of a seasonal beer flight lineup: Autumn Ale Brew, Autumn Winds, and Hoptoberfest are all currently on draft.

2. SPRUCING UP OUR WARDROBES

Sweater weather is, arguably, one of the coziest times of year. Once it’s October, we’re throwing on layers and heading out into the crisp air (whether or not the afternoon sun has us sweatily regretting this choice). For an oversized sweater look, we’re rocking the multicolored Lila Sweater or the Monte Stripe Sweater from Queen of Hearts and Modern Love. For those feeling at home in checkered patterns, we love layering with this green checkered dress shirt from vintage spot The Vault Collective.

Searching for shoes to complete the look? Adidas sneakers are one of the “it” kicks of the season. If you’re not brushing off your beloved pair from college, grab a clean white pair of the Adidas Aloha Super or the fun, grassy green Adidas Nora from local skate shop Civil.

3. PURCHASING FALL-CODED ITEMS

Once the weather turns, can you blame us for pulling out the pumpkin and foliage decor? For those of us who love entertaining, our guests are already oohing and ahhing over our Spiderweb Charcuterie Board and Maple Leaf Tidbit Dish Set from local store Homestyle. Check out the seasonal decor and local art at Craftland, just a few doors down too. Need a spooky conversation starter? We’ve got you! We recommend the book Witches, Wenches, and Wild Women of Rhode Island by M.E. Reilly-McGreen—available at Symposium Books—for some local lore and as a light (okay, so maybe not so light) coffee table read.

Or, to spice up the conversation in a more traditional way, you can pour your guests some of Dogfish Head’s Punkin Ale or the flannel-adorned Feels Like Home cider by Artifact Cider Project, both found at Eno Fine Wines.
