Calling all those who love good food, but especially seafood: brand new restaurant Gift Horse is officially open in Downtown Providence, RI!

We are pleased to share Gift Horse opens its doors to the public at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 22. The restaurant and raw bar is located at 272 Westminster Street, on the first floor of Cornish Associates’ historic Trayne Building. This dazzling establishment is headed by Benjamin Sukle, a James Beard award winner and the owner and chef of Oberlin and birch (now closed); Bethany Caliaro, longtime manager at Oberlin, is a partner in the restaurant. (And psssst- in case you missed it, Oberlin is slated to relocate this summer and will share the first floor of the Trayne Building with Gift Horse.)

Thursday through Monday, Gift Horse is open from 4-5 p.m. for half-priced oysters and drinks. Following that, the full menu is available from 5-11 p.m. and drinks are available until the clock strikes midnight. (Watch out, Cinderella- time moves quickly while you’re enjoying such a decadent menu!) Reservations for groups of 6+ can be made through Gift Horse’s Tock, but all other guests are advised to walk in. If you have a little time while you’re waiting for a seat, we recommend checking out a few of our favorite lovely neighborhood cocktail bars for an aperitif.

The restaurant centers around a full-service raw bar, including local shellfish, seafood, and an oyster selection from bays within Rhode Island. On our first visit, we could not get enough of the caviar and mini doughboys, along with the oysters, mussels, clams, crudo, and more on the “Slack Tide” tower. Many of the menu items—such as the spicy, flavorful Seafood Pancake—also draw from South Korean cuisine influences. The drinks menu boasts a variety of low alcohol by volume (ABV) and Mediterranean coast inspired cocktails, champagne, ciders, and beers that pair beautifully with the dishes.

We are beyond excited to welcome Gift Horse to our InDowncity family, and we cannot wait to hear what you all think about it! Tag us at @indowncitypvd during your visit and show us what decadent fare you’re feasting on.
