ABOUT THE RESTAURANT
This beautiful new spot opened to the public at 320 Westminster Street on December 21, 2025, and is open weekly from Tuesday through Sunday. The restaurant—owned by Chef Cecelia Lizotte—serves Nigerian cuisine and a variety of other West African dishes and drinks.
We’re very excited to have Suya Joint join many notable restaurants on this historic street, including Oberlin, Sura, Gift Horse, Amaryllis, and The Malted Barley.
Lizotte opened her first location as a catering business in the Roslindale area of Boston back in 2012. The original Suya Joint relocated and expanded in 2016 to a larger footprint in the Roxbury neighborhood. Today, Lizotte continues to operate the Roxbury location as well as a popular food truck. And check it out- the food is so tasty that one of Lizotte’s most recent accolades is Boston Magazine naming Suya Joint as the best West African restaurant in Boston.
Suya Joint’s menu highlights the cuisine of Lizotte’s native Nigeria, with favorites including jollof rice, fufu, and beef suya, a Nigerian meat skewer and the restaurant’s namesake. (Excuse us- we know we’re drooling!) Notably, some of the dishes include ingredients sourced directly from Nigeria, such as ogbono (mango seed) and Lizotte’s family recipe of kuli-kuli.
And hear ye, hear ye, folks with dietary restrictions: since the entire menu is dairy-free, we’re confident that Suya Joint’s offerings can be a popular option; much of the menu is gluten-free and vegetarian, too! Adding to the mouth-watering menu selection, the new restaurant will offer non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks, such as a variety of African beers.
“I’ve spent a good amount of time seeking locations for the next Suya Joint,” says Lizotte. “When I saw the Westminster space, I knew it was right. I can’t wait to open and share my food with the Rhode Island community.”
The Providence location serves guests from 12-10 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday, and from 2-8 p.m. on Sundays. Takeout and delivery will also be available. Later on, the space will host cooking classes with Lizotte, along with African-themed events. We cannot wait for you to check out Suya Joint in downtown Providence, friends!
