In Providence, there’s always something interesting going on! And we understand how challenging it can be to wade through all the happenings and decide what events to attend, where to eat, and what to shop for. That’s why we’re here to share the top three things we’re excited about in the coming week in each installment of “The Weekly.” Each week, we’ll rant and rave unabashedly about just a slice of the food, fun, and fantastic items that we’re currently obsessed with in downtown Providence, RI.

DINING: PROVIDENCE RESTAURANT WEEKS

We’re always excited to see what delightful menus and deals are offered during the annual Providence Restaurant Weeks! This year, the dining event spans Sunday, Jan. 26 through Saturday, Feb. 9 and includes some of our go-to downtown Providence spots.

Gracie’s—known for their beautiful fine dining experiences—is offering a special discounted $100 five-course chef’s tasting menu.

And both Gift Horse and Oberlin—two popular restaurants that just received James Beard Foundation nominations—have prix fixe menu options specially for Restaurant Weeks. At Oberlin, enjoy brunch with two courses and a drink for $30; there’s also a three-course dinner for $50. At Gift Horse, devour a three-course dinner, featuring oysters and new menu items, for $45.

Rosalina (at 50 Aborn Street) has a delicious three-course prix fixe menu that includes a variety of choices of Italian classics for $39.95. Trinity Brewhouse is also participating with a $16 deal that includes a beef (or vegan) hamburger with one topping alongside a 16 oz beer.

SHOPPING: WISDOM OF THE SNAKE CANDLE

On Wednesday, Jan. 29, the Lunar New Year ushers in the Year of the Snake. And so we are thrilled to introduce you to one of our favorite items right now: the Wisdom of the Snake Candle from downtown Providence shop Homestyle. Its scent is fruity and herbaceous, with lemon, orchids, orange blossoms, and more.

And when it comes to shopping for candles with unique, delightful scents, Homestyle at 233 Westminster Street is one of our go-to shops. (They also have a variety of kitchen items, house decor, children’s toys, and more.)

SIPPING: YEAR OF THE SNAKE TEA

Harney & Sons has long been a tea brand that has lined our pantry shelves at home. So we were elated to see a delicious new flavor available at downtown Providence grocery store Maruichi! Right in time for Lunar New Year on Wednesday, Jan. 29, head to Maruichi to buy the Year of the Snake tea. The fragrant black tea has notes of coconut and caramel and provides an excellent boost of caffeine (helpful for getting us through this eternal January).

When Maruichi opened a store at 113 Washington Street during Spring 2024, we were elated. This downtown store offers a variety of Japanese grocery staples and prepared foods (their sushi and matcha are so tasty).
