That’s why we’re here to share the top things we’re excited about in the coming week in each installment of “The Weekly.” Each week, we’ll rant and rave unabashedly about just a slice of the food, fun, and fantastic items that we’re currently obsessed with in downtown Providence, RI.

SPRING ITEMS (FOR THE KIDS AND FOR US) NOW ON THE SHELVES AT HOMESTYLE
lf there was ever a time to shop small and shop local, it’s now. And we are simply overjoyed to see that Homestyle on Westminster Street in downtown Providence, RI has all sorts of adorable and cuddly spring items now in stock. We’re talking bunny plushies for the kids! Collectible bunny chocolate tins for the vintage lover in your life! And covetable flower stud earrings for—dare we say—yourself!

OPEN MIC NIGHT WITH SYMPOSIUM BOOKS AT ELLIE’S
We love to see a downtown Providence neighborhood collaboration! We also love to see artists doing their thing. And on Friday, April 11, Symposium Books is hosting an Open Mic Night at Ellie’s. Sign ups begin at 6 p.m. and performances begin at 7 p.m.
“All are welcome,” writes Symposium Books, “We would love to hear some excellent poetry for poetry month but of course essays, songs, lyric writing, plays, short stories are more then welcome.”
And if you’d just like to check out the local art scene, Ellie’s is open as a wine bar on Fridays and Saturdays, so you can order a drink or some bites and enjoy the show.
JACQUES PEPIN FOUNDATION BENEFIT DINNER AT OBERLIN
If you’re a fan of Jacques Pépin and French cuisine, then you won't want to miss Oberlin’s upcoming benefit dinner for this iconic chef’s 90th birthday! Head to Oberlin on Westminster Street on Monday, April 14 to enjoy a six course tasting in honor of Jacques.
Participating local chefs will include Maria Meza of Dolores, Beau Vestal of New Rivers, Nikhil Naiker of NIMKI, Nick Gillespie of Dune Brothers Seafood, Melissa Denmark of Moonrose Farm, and Cassie Piuma of Sarma. The event also features a cocktail reception and specialty wine pairings. Reservations can be made here, for $280 per person.
WINE TASTING SERIES AT GRACIE’S BRINGS FRANCE TO PROVIDENCE
On Thursday, April 17 from 5:30-7 p.m, head to Gracie’s on Washington Street in downtown Providence for their latest installment of their wine tasting series, Journey Through the Vines. This month’s tasting has a special focus on the Alpine wines of France. You’ll not only enjoy 5-6 tastes of the selection with paired bites, but also glean new knowledge about the wines.
We always enjoy the fine dining experience at Gracie’s, and if you attend the tasting, you’ll receive a special 10% discount on dinner in the main dining room after the event. Tastings do sell out, so make sure to snag your tickets as soon as possible!
FIRST ROOFTOP TASTING OF THE YEAR WITH ENO FINE WINES
Gracie’s isn’t the only spot hosting a tasting on Thursday, April 17 downtown! Check out Eno Fine Wines’ casual rooftop tasting. It all kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. Grab tickets here, and then settle in for a beautiful night with food and drinks on the Peerless Building rooftop.
And their first tasting of the season features something special: “We're back with our first rooftop tasting of the year and so excited to be teaming up with Wine Wizards to feature wines from Rosenthal Wine Merchant. Rosenthal imports some of our favorite wines from small family-run estates in France, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and Spain.”
